Vicki Gill works out of her studio in the Lowell, North Carolina.
I make individual pieces of work to be used and to celebrate the everyday joys of living with handcrafted pottery and artwork. I am inspired by nature and art of the Far East and use these themes in my work. Texture is important because I feel my artwork is made to be felt, picked up and explored in the hand.
Each piece is individually crafted...using hand building or the potters wheel to create. Textures are carved or impressed with natural organic patterns and designs such as leaves, fish, etc. Often handles are added with applied texture. Transparent glazes are layered for depth of color. The stoneware pieces are fired in oxidation.
