Spicewalla

Food has always been a big part of my life. Not in the usual way, but in a magnificent way. My dad, Big Bill Foster, wasn’t just a great fisherman–he learned how to take that fresh fish and season it perfectly, so that each meal was a delight. Those of you who have eaten his food know exactly what I’m talking about! (In 2020, he has had lots of fun cooking with Spicewalla seasonings as a taste-tester.)

There are some smells that take us right back to memorable times in our life… like fresh-baked pumpkin pies. Holiday meals with mouth-watering dishes. Seasonal favorites that we remember from our childhood.

I think that’s why I’m so happy to be carrying spices and seasonings like those from Spicewalla in Asheville, NC. Even as I stock the shelves, the smells take me right back to happy times. And just in time for the holidays, we are getting in a big shipment to delight any cook! Nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice and apple pie spice. And of course, mulling spices that make the whole house smell happy!

Brand-new for fall 2021! Bright, tangy CHERRIES meet the smooth fragrance of sweet toasted ALMONDS! 🍒

Hand poured, locally-made candles.

The Vintage Canning Collection is an assortment of vintage-inspired candles made with 100% all natural and uncolored soy wax (good for the environment and the senses!) Reminiscent of grandma’s canning pantry, these candles are created in retro-style mason jars. Hand-crafted in an abundance of delectable fragrances, these delicious candles are a throwback to days gone by.

"At the Outer Banks Candle Company, candle making is a labor of love! So many variables come into play in the process…wax is melted at high and precise temperatures, while room temperature must be consistently cool and humidity low. Colors, wicks, and fragrances are added while the wax is at its HOTTEST. Think of sweet tea here: everyone is these parts knows that you add the sugar (and LOTS of it!) to sweet tea while its hot! Same idea with candles… these ingredients are added while the wax is hot, so the wax and fragrance are evenly and adequately fused. Then the wax is allowed to cool to just the right temperature for pouring (candles are temperamental little buggers!) Then, once the wax is poured, these sweet little candles have to be “babysat” over the next 24 hours to ensure that air does not become trapped inside and the surface dries smoothly. All of this to ensure that the candles cure properly, burn evenly and hold as much fragrance as the wax can contain! Once the process is complete, then each and every candle is cleaned and trimmed, and wrapped and labeled by hand. The secret ingredient: LOTS of experimentation and even more TLC!"
