"Here at The Happy Sea, we are inspired by the sea, the sand, and all the funky things in life. The Happy Sea was created by an ocean loving mom/daughter duo Laurie Moffitt and Owyn Porter in 2015 to help give back to our oceans.

A portion of all proceeds donates back to various ocean conservations such as Orca Conservancy and Sea To Shore. Sustainability plays such an important role in The Happy Sea and the future of our planet. We want you to feel good about what you’re buying and know that you really are making a difference in each purchase you make with us.

We extend our values in each category of The Happy Sea, and truly believe in American Made and ethically produced products. We want to positively impact our planet and its people, with everything we do, in every aspect of our production."

Local Outer Banks Shopping

57762 NC Hwy 12 – Hatteras NC 27943 blue_pelican@mac.com

Find us in the heart of Hatteras Village on the island of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. You will enjoy our great selection of local Outer Banks, regional, and American made arts, crafts and gifts. Our yarn shop features designer fibers, tools and notions, as well as locally handmade buttons.

Cape Hatteras, Outer Banks, North Carolina

From the ocean to the sound, and the night sky where you can still see the Milky Way, the Outer Banks and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore offer inspirational views, animals in their natural habitat, breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over the ocean, and enough wonder and beauty to inspire us every single day.

Jennifer Johnson, Blue Pelican’s owner and Hatteras Village native, creates most of the work in the shop. We also feature work from other local artists/artisans and craftspeople. When we want to share something that we can’t get locally, we look first for North Carolina crafters and then expand our search to American artisans making unique and limited production items.

And…the “and Yarn” part of our name?  We have two rooms of the 1950’s house that is home to our local small business, full to the gills with yarn and more.  We also have handmade buttons you can’t find anywhere else, kits for crochet, knitting and fiber arts.  You should make the trip to see us if you’re in the area, if only to see just how cleverly we have filled up the shop.  If you want to learn knitting, weaving, crochet, macrame or any other kind of fiber art, we have a teacher who would love to talk more with you.
